Fall News Roundup

Don Bryant’s beautiful 2021 recording of my song “A World Like That” is coming out on vinyl 7” in the UK courtesy of Creative Soul Records. One of the many reasons it’s very special to me is it features the late great Howard Grimes on drums. This recording is the greatest honor of my career as a songwriter. Pre-order the vinyl here.

It was an honor to perform at the Memphis Music Hall of Fame 2022 induction ceremony a couple of weeks ago at the Cannon Center. I had the privilege of playing with my friend and inductee J.M. Van Eaton of Sun Records, and I also performed a medley of hits by inductee Bill Lee Riley. Booker T. Jones performed, and Robert Plant gave a speech inducting Priscilla Presley (who I had the pleasure of performing for at Theater Memphis a few months ago). Read John Beifuss’ report and photo gallery in the Memphis Commercial-Appeal, and Joe Sill’s post on the I Love Memphis blog.

I’m excited to be playing the Overton Park Shell on Saturday, October 1 at 7 PM with my all-star band and horn section, The Rhythm of the City, for their Orion Free Concert Series. They had a cancellation and luckily we were all available!

We’re also excited to be performing at the Grove at GPAC on Thursday, November 3 at 5 PM. We were supposed play this show last spring but it got rained out, so let’s hope “the sun’s gonna shine again.”

Lastly, I’m very happy to share that will be once again hosting the ELVIS: A CHRISTMAS PEACE holiday concert at the Soundstage at Graceland on Friday, November 18, where the band and I will perform Elvis’ favorite holiday and spiritual music, featuring the Tennessee Mass Choir and many exciting special guests TBA. This event is a part of the big Holiday Lighting weekend, see Graceland.com for details and tickets.
